eat all the smith & deli sandwiches – #18, buffalo the vampire slayer

Day 18.
I am a Buffy fan, so I was chuffed to see a sandwich that paid homage to the TV series. I’d also had my eye on it since I discovered the joy of Buffalo Cauliflower with its great flavours.
Once upon a time, before I had sampled the huge range of excellent sandwiches that Smith & Deli make I probably would have been grateful for this sandwich, but stacked up against the stellar competition, this one just doesn’t do it for me.
Individually, the ingredients are all good. Crunchy roll, iceberg lettuce, carrot, fried tofu with buffalo sauce, red onion, celery and ranch dressing all sound promising. There are a good range of flavours and textures there, but it just didn’t work for me. This was mainly because the buffalo sauce overwhelmed everything with its brilliant orange, chilli heat and tart flavour. I’d have preferred the tofu to be basted in the buffalo and cooked.
It is hard to know how to mark this one, it is my first minor disappointment. Having said that, I ate it all. 🙂
It seems a bit mean to mark it so low, but I am going to give it a 6.5/10.
Try it for yourself. You may love it.

As much as I want to try this one because Buffy is my favourite show, I don’t like spicy things so I am going to have to give it a miss. Sounds like there are much better ones anyway!
It was OK, but not stellar like so many others.
I was disappointed by this one too. The day I had it, it was like the tofu had been frozen and only partially defrosted.. And my roll wasn’t fresh 🙁
Very average.
Still love S&D though.
The ingredients were fine in mine, but the sandwich just didn’t thrill me. Yes I love S&D.
