eat all the smith & deli sandwiches – #10, reubenstein

Day 10.
After the killer “Godfather” sandwich I had to try something a little less fearsome, so I settled on the gentler and kinder Reubenstein. I have never eaten a Reuben sandwich vegan or otherwise. I haven’t even tried the much praised one at True North, I can’t get past the brekky roll there. The Smith & Deli version looks and tastes great….I love sauerkraut and pickles and all things Eastern European, so what could go wrong? Nothing.
The Reubenstein sandwich comes with piles of delicious sauerkraut, dill pickles and seitan based peppery pastrami slathered with a mayo based Russian dressing on lightly toasted rye bread.
It is lip smackingly good, a combination of peppery, sour, salty and savoury. The Russian dressing adds creaminess and extra flavour.
Thankyou S&D for veganising Eastern European deli food!

This is one of the sandwiches I would love to try because I am quite fascinated by reuben sandwiches – not that I have had a chance to try many – though it is interesting there is no cheese as I thought regular reubens have cheese and S&D do lots of vegan cheese
This is what I’m going to try after the Maury and before the egg McMartinez.
This does look good, though after the reuben at Chicago Diner I think all other reubens are ruined for me now. *sniff*
Didn’t have the Reuben at the Chicago diner, I had breakfast there which was good.
