Ballard’s

Ballard’s

I had a chance to get to Ballard’s recently with a friend. It was the perfect fullstop to the end of a long day.  Relaxing, comfortable and with delicious food and drink.

Ballard’s is a fully vegan bar in Thornbury run by the chef behind A Fan’s Notes.  It is light and airy with well spaced tables and friendly staff. I have been to several of the vegan degustations at A Fan’s Notes, so I knew I’d be in for a treat.

The food is simpler bar snack type food, and perfect with a drink. The menu changes regularly and has 6 or 7 small plates, a couple of larger ones as well as sides and a dessert.

My friend and I chose several small plates and a couple of glasses of wine.

Being a brussels sprout afficionado I immediately chose the brussels sprout and corn toastie. We followed up with the crispy king oyster mushrooms with sesame mayo and some chips with dill aioli. They are no ordinary chips, they were so delicious we ordered another plateful and another glass of wine!

Surprisingly the brussels sprout toastie was my least favourite, with the mushrooms and chips battling for favourite.

I live walking distance from Ballards and I can easily see myself popping in every evening for a wine and a snack.
